The pizza. The wings. The hoagies. This place just cannot do any wrong. The pizza is amazing. The crust in just indescribable. It's not thick or thin, just right and puffy. The sauce is delicious without being overbearing. The cheese and toppings make this the perfect pizza. You can't stop at just one slice. More like half the pie. The wings are out of this world. My favorite sauce by far is the Grand Slam sauce (a combo of mild sauce and garlic). The sauce is always plentiful. Order a pizza and wing combo & I dare you NOT to dip your crust in the wing sauce. It's that good.

Meh, Grotto. How they say "the legendary taste" is beyond me. A very flavorless slice. It seems as if they've given up and just let the pizza bake itself. After moving here 15 years ago, people used to rave about it - so finally trying it was a letdown. They need to rethink their entire seasoning in their bland sauce. Maybe a little something called....Salt?

Delivery for 23 at 9pm after an away game. The pizza was good, garlic bread was eh. Good experience overall. I called at 530pm to have the pies delivered at 9 and they were right on time with hot pizza and took my credit card over the phone with no prob. Good enough.

Ordered the bleu cheese/wing sauce wings. I usually HATE bleu cheese but you could barely taste it in this sauce. The wings were a little greasy, but certainly big enough and filling. The pizza has always been rather bland tasting to me. I do appreciate that they have several craft (and local) beers available on draft. The biggest drawback to me is that it feels like 1989 in this place. Desperately in need of a makeover.

The pizza was awesome but the Stromboli needs some improvement. Our waitress was very nice. I fully recommend this place.

Received the worst service here and it wasn't busy or crowded. It took our waitress over ten minutes to greet us and take our drink order, it took her ten minutes to give us two drinks, and after she brought our food, we didn't see her again. She offered to bring us parmesan cheese when our food was brought out, but never came back. My husband had to go find her to get the check and a to-go box. Never coming back.

Worst customer service. Waited one and one half hour for a pizza delivery. Was told that no one pick the order up to place it. I would have to wait another hour. No apology given. There are plenty of pizza places. This one is off the list. This was at the Wyoming valley mall.

Tried this place on a late night delivery order to my hotel. Ordered pizza, wings and a Italian sub. The pizza was possibly the worst pie I ever ate. Wings was gross. Sub was passable. Spent $50 on $5 quality food. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

We ate here on a road trip. The pizza was tasty and I really liked the pizza crust. Service was prompt, but the waitress called me "Honey" three times, which I find irritating, Sugar. The interior is dated 80's ugly, but it makes the place very family friendly - I suppose because parents feel a little less guilty watching the food fly. $25 for a 16" pie with four ingredients.

Whenever we pass through this area on the way to visit family we stop. I really love their pizza. Great sauce and always get "The Works" cos I love that it's topped with garlic! Yum, yum, yum!!! Okay, now my mouth is watering and I'm several states away!! Hmmm, maybe they'll expand down to North Carolina! We could sure use some decent pizza here!

Originally stopped in after driving to get to Wilkes Barre for business during a blinding snow storm. Locals here were very friendly and genuine. Stayed for more than just a beer and had the special which was a regular one topping pizza that was some of the BEST I have ever had yet! Came back to this place and found out their Grand Slam sauce on the wings (I like mine extra crispy which as long as you ask - they will make them just right) was worth coming back for before I left town! Went back a third evening for good NTN trivia, wings and conversation and found on the specials that they had Sicilian pizza - YET ANOTHER FANTASTIC MEAL! This place is really a must stop kinda place! Friendly staff - super patrons and excellent food!! Convenient location as well!

In order to receive your takeout order, you must be directly in front of the cash register. Even if you have been waiting at the counter for 20 minutes, not one employee will go "out of their way" to ask you if you have ordered a pizza or if you are simply just loitering.

We met here for a late date and some drinks and food. There isn't much in the W-B area where both of these things can be satisfied at a late hour. Just to be clear. I hate sports. I want to kill sports. That being said, this is an awesome sports bar. It's clean, brightly lit, and the service we received was perfect. The bartender who served us food at a table was attentive and didn't hover. The food was very good for a sports bar. The programming was of such a volume that normal conversation was possible. The crowd was middle aged. No douchey college guys getting piss drunk and yelling about various balls while grabbing each other's . And location. Thanks Grotto. We''ll be back.

Decided to give this place a try after being skeptical. I should have stuck with my gut feeling and not ordered from this place. I ordered fried calamari a plain pizza and chicken tinder basket. The pizza tasted like it was old frozen pizza (disgusting). The calamari, if that's what u wanna call it, was like eating pieces of breaded something. As for the chicken tenders my dog would not even eat it and he eats anything you put in front of him. They were very very dry the honey mustard didn't even help. Fries were soggy as hell. Positively won't be ordering from this place anymore. Believe that.

We love the Grotto Pizza's in Delaware and frequent them quite regularly when we travel on vacation. While traveling home from Boston we were pleased to find a Grotto Pizza along the way. Since we were in a rush we ordered several of their par-baked pizzas to go with the intent of freezing/eating them upon our arrival home. The pizzas traveled very well and were quite good upon eating them. While they were good and tasted like the Grotto's we were familiar with, they just were not as good as the ones found along the coast in DE.

My waitress last night was super awesome, so I figured I have to update my review of this place. Not only did the waitress bring us our buzztime players before we even asked for them, she provided perfect service with a smile. The manager even came by to ask us how things were - that never happened before and I've been coming here for over 10 years. The food last night was great, too. They must have changed up their staff because the server that provided poor service is long gone, and the newer girl is absolutely the best server I've had in a long time! Keep up the good work, Grotto!

Great pizza. The sauce is sweet and tangy, something that you do not find in a lot of pizza places. Every time I have gone the pizza has been fantastic. The wings are good, but for the amount that you get I do feel that they are a bit overpriced. Service has been pretty good every time I have gone.

I love grotto pizza recipe. I eat there often and never had a bad experience. Service excellent. Food excellent. Place excellent. The waitress even mad sure the game I wanted to see was on and I had a good view. I also have eaten in other grotto locations in Delaware. Same awesome!!!!

Average service. Had pizza and wings, both of which were good.

  • Frank R.

Got the works and it was fine but not great. The sauce was a too sweet for me, pizza shouldn't have a candied taste to it. The girl at take out was in a real big hurry to make me disappear though I was the only one in the room. I think it'll be my only visit.

I have family in the area and since I grew up going to the Bloomsburg Fair every year as a kid, Grotto's pizza was always a must so it is a bit nostalgic for me. I'll go right into that I'm only giving 4 stars at this point because I've ONLY ever done takeout orders here so I don't have anything to base a full experience on. I read a few of the other complaints in Yelp reviews and have almost avoided eating here because I don't want my Grotto memories tainted. I've been treated with mutual respect at the order counters and rarely had a problem. One time I called for a pick up order about 15 minutes before they opened. They accommodated but whoever was unlocking the door a handful of minutes early when I arrived gave me a bit of grief even though my product was done and waiting for me. I can't remember a time I've ordered a topping, what's the need? "One large plain pie to go, please". The consistency of the sweet yet subtle amount of sauce they use and a dash of cheese is something to be admired. There really aren't many places that can match up with the TASTE of Grotto's, it is extremely unique and is likely why it is still a hit on fair midways. My one minor complaint is why it seems to dry out fairly easily the next day and isn't nearly as good reheated in an oven or microwave. The H2O in the dough must be on the light side but I'll forgive them for what. Don't waste your time with wings or the like......hell, even pepperoni would be overkill. It also seems like you should avoid sit down service. Call ahead 20 minutes, right before leaving the mall nearby or work, grab and go. Want a six pack of beer with it? They have those too! /drool

The useless waitress left us waiting an hour and a half, forgetting to put in our order. She lied and blamed the kitchen. We finally just decided to leave. I saw the manager on the way out and stopped to inform him what had happened. (Even though he tried his hardest not to make eye contact with me or acknowledge my existence.) When I told him how long we'd be waiting, he said "yeah, I heard." I waited for more of a response, but nothing came. Awful customer service.

This is a local GEM. Same as the locations in Delaware. Grotto is the type of place you take people who are visiting from out of town to. Some are impressed, some are not, but I consider this to be as good as anything you can find the in the major cities.

  • Ester B.

The food was pretty good: ordered pizza and eggplant parm. The service was fine. We are a young family with small kids. All our requests were fulfilled without any issues.

I'm not sure why the majority is rating Grotto as a terrible place. I usually only get take out. Their thick crust is outstanding. I love their pizza. The sauce needs a little salt, but when you're cooking for the public, you can't add too much. It is a little expensive. Wings are meh. Not meaty enough. Grand slam sauce is good.

I called Grotto when I rolled into the adjacent Red Roof Inn at 10:30pm after driving a day long. The reasons for doing so were several: I was extremely hungry, worn out, and in need on a meal that wouldn't destroy me with all kinds of unsavory dairy products, hence my genuine excitement by the "Pizza Russo," a veggie pie with cheese. That's actually on your menu?! Sweet. When I phoned, the young woman actually tried to dissuade me from ordering. "We don't deliver after 10," was followed by, "Well, we close at 11 anyway" when I said I'd come the whopping ONE MILE and pick it up, as it was only 10:30 ("It's 10:34," she pointed out. Ummm. Right. Whatever. This is a PICKUP order. I am not dining in or something. So, just make this pizza! For real: wow. And so, I was finally "permitted" to order a Pizza Russo and Tomato and Basil Sicilian. Out of the blue, she asked if I wanted onions on the latter. How random. And no. If I wanted onions, I'd have asked for a Tomato and Basil Sicilian Pizza with onions. Next up: she doesn't know WHERE THE PLACE SHE WORKS is located, expect that it's "in the mall." She did not know the NAME of the mall, and it wasn't written on the menu either. Wow. Finally, she finds another employee who knew the address. So guess what happens next? The Pizza Russo has cheese. The Tomato and Basil has NO basil, but it DOES have onions. Seriously? Did you just get EVERYTHING wrong? I waited until 11 for the second order to come out, and stand there and stare at my pizza and she frantically tries (and fails) to lock the front door. No freebies or anything! Just a lot of "Oh no oops!" Damn. Really? This place has horrible, clueless (though "kind enough") service, and brutal food. Make sure you are in Wilkes-Barre before 10pm, as that's when most businesses seemed to close--and trust me, you don't want to get stuck with this place as your only option for very, very obvious reasons.

1 star rating is as low as Yelp will let me go, otherwise i would go lower. Ate at the mall location this past Wednesday, wasn't a good experience. Waited 10 mins to be seated. The service was average, the food was ok. My daughters order was wrong and after fixing it they said they would take it off the bill. After receiving the bill, it was not removed. After questioning it they said they would take half off. Because if this we will not be returning.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
